Social Kayak Day – Clarrie Hall Dam

Clarrie hall Dam Trip report by Toni

Well finally I have found some time to write this report and apologise for the delay.

Sunday the 2nd of March 2008 saw our first club trip for the year with a freshwater spot.
Picturesque Clarrie Hall Dam was the location with us rocking up around 8.30am.

After a few hello's and unloading the gear we set off, full of hope with what the day had to offer.
This dam holds an abundance of water lillies.

and with a reputation for producing the goods and solid surface action on the lillies with the Bass.
We branched out in different directions around the dam working our way up to the right from the launch area. There was good shows of fish holding close to the lilly edges but there weren't playing.

There was some great bank areas on the far side of the dam near the area that was closed off due to an outbreak of some sort of noxious weed.
A couple of the guys headed further up the dams right hand arm.We ventured over to another area to the far right of the launch area where it was quite shallow in places with one or two of the guys having a ball working there way throughthe lillypads.

At this stage I know I had tried nearly ever colour and lure in my gear with no luck.
As the day wore on the guys that had ventured further up the dam returned with only limited success.Of the fish that were caught most were caught on the troll.
All up we had 7 participants with a member from the kayak club joining us.It was great to meet some new faces and hopefully the fish will be more willing participants on our next trip.
Looking forward to our next trip.
Cheers.
Toni.
