Pointro is an accommodation and camp site situated at 532 Burnett Creek Road on the southern shore of Maroon Dam. Access is by bitumen road from the town of Boonah or Rathdowney. The distance from Boonah is 28.5 km and from Brisbane is 116 kms.
Our Site: We will be camping at "The Ironbark" which is a gentle sloping site with easy access to the dam. It is within 100 metres of the Amenities block which includes lighted (til 9.00 pm) hot showers and toilets, our campsite has a fireplace where campfire cooking can be done or there is a gas barbeque closer to the amenities area. Bins are provided for rubbish but recyclable rubbish needs to be taken with us. The site is suitable for tents or camper trailers, no caravans are allowed by council regulation. The site is about 500 metres from the waters edge.

Fishing : Maroon Dam

Maroon dam is stocked with Bass and Golden Perch and Murray river cod. This dam has a plentiful supply of smaller bass with the biggest bass being around the mid 40's size. Golden Perch are quite often a by catch when targeting bass. Maroon dam has a good early morning edge bite and during the day fish move to the centres of the dam. With recent rains the capacity has increased to over 60 percent. This inflow of water has filled the back half of the dam which is very narrow tree lined and scenic in parts, this also opens up and area suitable for fishing which is away from the ski boats that often hang in the main part of the dam. The dam also has a fantastic night bite. One of our members Paul recently fished there on dark scoring 10 bass in 20 casts so some exciting fishing can be had there at night too.

What to bring: Essentials, Fishing gear, a small amount of firewood.

At Maroon Dam you will need to hold a Stocked Impoundment Permit (SIP). Permits are available online from here,

Getting there, from Brisbane and the Gold Coast,

So if you're after a fishing trip with something different and you have never fished freshwater before this is the place to try, all that is need to catch bass is a light rod that you would use to catch bream in saltwater. Lures are best, 50 - 75 mm soft plastics on light jig heads, Spinner baits however a Jackall lure is the ultimate way to catch them.

All are welcome, hope to see some new faces there.
